I have lived in the Emsland for over a decade and have missed visiting a user group that whole time. The nearest one to me is about 90 minutes drive away, so was not really a viable option.
After starting to speak at conferences last year, I understand the need for local user groups. This is where people can meet more regularly than at conferences, where they can find like minded people who also live nearby (some conferences are on entirely different continents, which is cool, but makes it difficult to keep in touch).
With that in mind, I have decided that it is about time that the North West of Germany, or rather the Emsland, should have its own SQL Server User Group.
We are rushing the start a little, because I want to take advantage of having Jonathan Allen ( b | t ) over for a visit in June.
Our first meeting will be on the 19.06 starting at 17:30 (CST) at the IT Emsland in Lingen. Jonathan will be presenting his session “Extended Events – Not so tricky as you might think” (in English) and I will be presenting my session “SQL Server Consolidation – Resistence is Futile” (English or German).
If you want to attend (or attend future meetings), please let me know. We have a contact formular setup or you can get in touch with my via Twitter or email (william_durkin at live dot com).
Just a quick post to say that I have been chosen to speak at SQL Saturday 313 in Sankt Augustin near Bonn in Germany!
This is my first speaking engagement in my home country and I am really looking forward to it. I will be doing a talk on Replication Troubleshooting where I hope to explain how replication can go wrong and how to go about fixing it.
I am unsure whether to try out a session in German or English, I will make the choice on the day – depending on the audience,
Either way, I’m sure it will be a fun day. There are a lot of really good speakers and sessions lined up, so you are guaranteed to have a good time. If you are attending, come and see my session or just have a chat.
